Take the Summer Reading Recommendation Quiz

Summer is right around the corner, which means it is the perfect time to read some new fiction. The following quiz will help pick the ideal book for you. All of these books are ones I have read in the last two years. These are the best books I have read that are fiction and with material geared towards teens or adults. Additionally, these books lean on the easier side, making them ideal for new readers. Note the following grade-level equivalences:

Beginner: 5th grade and below

Intermediate: 6th-8th grade

Advanced: 8th grade and above

How do I find books to read?

The first place to look for books is at your local library. eBooks are available to check out at the Santa Monica Public Library Online Library for California residents. Another library for Californians to check out is the Los Angeles Public Library.

Los Angeles Public Library is running their Summer Reading program from June 1st-August 31st. Sign up here. Santa Monica will run its program from June 22-September 7. Sign up here when it opens.

The Santa Monica Adult School also has a library available when it reopens in the Fall (if conditions allow). Every book in the quiz also has a link to its Amazon description for convenience.

How do I get more recommendations?

Librarians are excellent people to ask for book recommendations. They are expertly trained to find books for you based on your tastes. Don’t hesitate to walk up to them and ask them for what you like. Once the libraries reopen, you can get in touch with them via phone, text, email or chat.

If you want to stay in touch with what I am reading, you can check out my Goodreads feed in the Beautyined Home Page or you can follow me here. I have talked about two other books on this site: The Trial and Colleges that Save Lives. The Trial is harder in reading level than the recommendations, and Colleges that Save Lives is nonfiction geared towards college applicants. If you’re ready for more of a challenge, UC Berkeley publishes a yearly list of summer reading recommendations as well.

How about movie recommendations?

For more summer fun, you can also take the following movie recommendations quiz, which features some of the films nominated for the annual Neddys movie awards. Follow @beautyined on Twitter to find the list of the nominees as well as the winners when they are announced!
