Ellii (ESL Library) Video Overview Tutorial

Ellii is a popular tool for learning English in a classroom setting, with its extensive library of materials and a dedicated online learning platform for learner independent study. I recommend Ellii as a supplemental tool to target difficult grammar areas, give students more story listening and writing practice, and to teach about American holidays.

For Saturday classes, Ellii is also a valuable tool because it allows students to continue practicing the material that they have learned, throughout the week. If you already use an online platform like Burlington English, or already assign enough homework, I wouldn’t suggest using Ellii’s classroom feature, as it often becomes just “one more program” for the students to learn to use. However, I do know there are classes that do not have access to Burlington English, and so this program would be a great help. In general, even if you don’t have students create an account, using Ellii as a PDF library resource of printables is also valuable.

In classes where I don’t have students make an account, I’ll often still use Ellii’s library of videos, pronunciation practice, and worksheets. My favorite Ellii worksheets are the “Class Surveys” where students have to ask multiple classmates the same questions. Below is an example of one of these: a group work activity where students walked around the class and asked each other what they do on the weekend.

Check out my overview of Ellii. Feel free to ask any additional questions you may have!
