Get Started with Reading at the LAPL Library

Here are a list of things you can do to start taking advantage of our LAPL Library Resources! If you would like other resources for books, check out this article. For information about all library electronic resources, check out this guide.

  1. Sign up for a library card.

It is easy to get a library card from the City of Los Angeles as long as you have an email address and a Los Angeles County address. And now, you can use your e-Card to check out physical materials if you present your ID!

  1. Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge
  2. Get familiar with Libby/Overdrive

Libby and Overdrive are two similar apps that you can use to download eBooks and audiobooks. Libby is recommended if you are on a phone and Overdrive is recommended if you are on desktop. There are some books on Overdrive that are not on Libby so before giving up on your book search, make sure to check both platforms.

  1. Use the Ask a Librarian Form for book recommendations

You can also go to a branch in person to ask a librarian for recommendations on what books to read next.
